About Amino Acid Supplements

The Sporty's Health range of Amino acid Supplements are unique products designed to enhance exercise performance and recovery, as well as promote optimal health and wellness. Some amino acids reduce markers of muscle tissue damage during training, while others can increase muscle pumps. Health effects can be diverse, from natural anti-viral benefits to supporting skin health. For instance, citrulline has been used for the management of high blood pressure, tyrosine is often used for chronic stress and subclinical hypothyroidism. The right amino acid or group of amino acids can certainly help you achieve your health or performance goals.

Amino acids are abundant in nature as structural components of proteins. This means any food containing protein contains amino acids, such as legumes, nuts, eggs and milk. There are nine essential amino acids, which are tryptophan, methionine, phenylalanine, lysine, threonine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine and valine. The last three are also referred to as branched chain amino acids (BCAAs).

Unlike food-based amino acids, supplements have the advantage of being in free-form. This means they are not contained within a complex protein structure, which takes time to break down. This bypasses the need to digest and liberate them from a protein molecule, ensuring that absorption is fast and complete. Free form amino acid supplements can be particularly useful when taken before or during exercise. Unlike protein powders, amino acids are light on the stomach and rarely cause nausea during exercise. Essential amino acids are a great option for those with digestive difficulties who struggle to eat enough protein food or shakes.

Amino acid supplements are concentrated forms of one or a range of individual amino acids, often impossible to find in nature. For instance, amino acids like citrulline or agmatine are not found in foods in high concentrations, and certainly not without competing amino acids. The amount of watermelon that would need to be consumed to equal one serve of pure powder would be impossible to consume. Moreover, higher amounts of one single amino acid enter the bloodstream faster and in greater amounts when taken alone, which is helpful for attaining the optimal results.

Amino acids are important nutrients for the human body, just like vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. You might be surprised at what much amino acids can actually do. Though there are nine essential amino acids, there are in fact many more conditionally-essential amino acids which the body needs when it cannot produce enough to meet demands, such as tyrosine, glutamine and arginine. The importance of amino acid nutrition is often overlooked due to their commonality and abundance in food.
