About Thermogenic Supplements for Burning Fat

The Sporty's Health Thermogenics range assist with boosting the metabolism and generating more heat. Increased body heat indicates more metabolic activity, which means more calories are being expended at all times, making it easier to get yourself into the negative energy balance required for fat loss. After all, accessing your fat stores for energy, and burning them up, is all about calories in and calories out, unless you're struggling with insulin resistance.

In healthy people, if we consume less calories than we expend, we are in a negative energy balance and lose weight. It's worth noting that most people lose muscle on weight loss programs, which is of concern particularly with advancing age when re-building muscle is difficult. Any weight loss program worth its salt preserves muscle mass as much as possible. Doing so reduces the risk of rebound weight gain once the weight loss program is finished, and a maintenance program started. Muscle mass is a good indication of overall health status.

Some of the most popular and potent thermogenic supplements are capsaicin (extracted from chilli), caffeine, chlorogenic acids (from Green Coffee) and EGCG (from Green Tea). A research paper published in June 2017 by The International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition demonstrated that chilli consumption over a 12 week period led to an acceleration of weight loss. It was concluded that chilli and capsaicin reduced insulin resistance, boosted energy expenditure and thermogenesis.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a research paper in 1999 showing that Green Tea boosted thermogenesis beyond what was expected from its caffeine content. It was believed that this was in part due to its content of catechins, particularly epigallocatechin-3-0-gallate (EGCG). Green tea is a valuable plant-based supplement to support general health, enhance antioxidant status and function as an anti-viral.

There are many other natural thermogenic aids that can be taken to enhance the effects of fat loss programs. Chlorogenic acids from Green Coffee have been shown to assist with fat-loss, as well as providing abundant powerful antioxidants. Caffeine is a strong metabolic aid, helping to boost thermogenesis and calorie expenditure. This was reported all the way back in May 1980 by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition where coffee, decaffeinated coffee and pure caffeine were trialed for weight loss. Caffeine activates the sympathetic nervous system to increase energy expenditure, whether we be at rest or exercising. Many effective weight loss aids function by stimulating this aspect of the nervous system, such as capsaicin from chilli.

Exercise is a fantastic way to support the body and improve body composition. Exercise is particularly helpful for people who often they feel sluggish with regards to mood and focus, as often this relates back to a sluggish metabolism and a poor sympathetic nervous system tone. For the best results, a routine that involves resistance or weight bearing exercise as well as aerobic exercise is an effective approach.
