X50 Showtime Review (+ Oxyshred Comparison)
Tribeca Health the creators of the first concentrated green tea sachet: X50. Yet their product range extends beyond powdered tea to Lean Protein Powders, Vita Matcha, MCT-Enriched Coffee and Showtime, a caffeinated fat-burning formula.
X50 Showtime packs some punch too. It’s loaded to the rim with polyphenols, carnitine, theanine and more.
Despite the flamboyant product name, Tribeca Health were dead-serious when they decided to create a thermogenic formulation that can deliver real results.
X50 Showtime delivers a range of fat-burning ingredients, including herbal medicines, amino acids and nutraceuticals, which help to stimulate the sympathetic nervous system resulting in an increased metabolic rate.
Carnitine
Few fat-burning ingredients are quite as popular as Carnitine. And not without good reason. This dipeptide, composed of the essential amino acids methionine and lysine, offers a range of beneficial actions, well beyond its thermogenic potential.
When it comes to fat-burning power, the verdict is in. Carnitine supplementation leads to an extra 1.33kg of weight loss as opposed to placebo (1).
This fat-burning effect is believed to be due to its ability to move fatty acids into the mitochondria where they are converted to energy precursors by a process called beta-oxidation.
In addition, carnitine offers range of benefits, all of which are supported by clinical trials:
- Reduces Markers of Cellular Damage and Muscle Injury from Exercise (2)
- Offers Antioxidant Benefits (2)
- Improves Blood Flow to Muscle Tissue (2)
- Supports Learning and Memory (acetyl L-carnitine)(3)
- Boosts Mood and Protects Nerves (4)
- Increases Energy Levels in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (5)
- Increases Muscle Mass, Decreases Body Mass and enhances Physical and Mental Energy Levels in Older Adults (2)
Other Ingredients
The Green Tea polyphenols, particularly EGCG, have a decent amount of research behind them as natural fat-burning chemicals (6).
Coleus is a completely underrated herbal medicine. It has been shown to increase cAMP levels and assist in reducing fat mass (7,8). It is often coupled with Green Tea in fat-burning formulations.
In addition, Grains of Paradise and Synephrine are both ingredients believed to enhance the fat-burning power of the body, as well as assisting with appetite and cravings.
Okay, so there’s this product called Oxyshred. You know—the most popular thermogenic on the planet. And many can’t look past it when reaching for their monthly fat-burning supply.
So what’s the difference? Can X50 Thermoshred (Showtime) really stack up against this hyped formula? Or does it fall as flat as the Bonneville Salt Flats?
Both products come in a 60 serve tub, and are priced quite similarly, with comparable serving sizes. Oxyshred does pack in more Acetyl L-Carnitine per serve, at 1.75 grams compared to 1 gram in Showtime. This puts one serve of Oxyshred into a solid therapeutic dosage window.
However, Showtime offers double the amount of theanine, at 200mg per serve. Theanine is a valuable green tea amino acid, offering mental relaxation, which counters the agitation and over-stimulation that can sometimes come from caffeine.
The caffeine sits at 200mg per serve in Showtime, versus 150mg in Oxyshred. This is neither here nor there, and all depends on individual requirements. However, form a purely fat-burning viewpoint, more is better (within reason).
Despite a low dose B vitamin complex in Oxyshred, Showtime does offer some amazing accessory nutrients. This turns the X50 product into more than your average thermogenic.
Showtime offers a polyphenol-standardised Green tea (with tremendous benefits), which Oxyshred does not contain, in addition to coleus, synephrine, grains of paradise, higenamine and glucomannan.
X50 Showtime also offers a whopping 1.5 grams of taurine per serve, which has demonstrated benefits when it comes to increasing time to exhaustion (by 10% in cyclists!), increasing peak torque, reducing delayed onset muscle soreness and offering antioxidant benefits.
Though Oxyshred does contain a superior amount of Acetyl L-Carnitine, X50 Showtime contains Green Tea Polyphenols and a range of other ingredients, which will outdo a higher carnitine content. Showtime offers countless benefits beyond fat-burning as well, which will assist with exercise performance, recovery and mental state.
The verdict? X50 Showtime is hard to overlook.
Showtime comes in some epic flavours, including Strawberry Kiwi, Sour Gummy and Pineapple Mango. And they don’t just sound interesting, they’re actually really nice!
If you’re experiencing flavour-fatigue from the litany of standard flavours on the market, like watermelon and raspberry in a shade of blue, Showtime is sure to stimulate some sensory delight after the very first sip.
When to Take X50 Showtime
As this is a caffeinated fat-burner, the options really are unlimited. If you like, you can use it as a pre-workout, taken 30 minutes or so before exercise.
Alternatively, you might like to try taking it first thing in the morning each day to get your energy levels and mood up, and kick-start thermogenesis.
As another option, you could try taking ½ serve first thing in the morning and save the other half serve to take as a pre-workout, given that you don’t train early.
1 scoop is one serve, which equates to 5.3 grams of powder. If you have not used caffeinated powders before, it might be best to start with ½ scoop or less, taken before lunch time, to assess you tolerance.
Conclusion
This is an effective and versatile formulation that offers a lot mot than the product name suggests.
While it does promote fat-burning, in part due to its caffeine content, there are many other ingredients to support performance and recovery, as well as boosting mood and energy levels.
Given that the flavours are unique and do taste exceptional, we are sure that Tribecca health have created a winning formulation to rival some of the industry heavyweights.
