Two of Sydney's most highly respected naturopaths, Stephen Sprada and Shane Sullivan, are the brains behind Vital Greens. In the lead-up to the turn of the millennium, both had noticed that an increasing number of their patients were suffering from digestive, bowel and gut difficulties. Effective treatment required numerous supplements, often in complex combinations. Some clients were taking as many as thirty tablets every day.

So the two naturopaths decided to find a way to make the healing process more simplistic and therefore convenient. Drawing on their wealth of knowledge and experience, they researched, experimented, formulated and tested until they came up with a powder that could both improve digestive problems and increase the body's absorption of important nutrients. They named it Vital Greens. Not long afterwards, a second product was created - Vital Protein.

Eleven years later - in 2011 - Vital supplements had become so popular that Sullivan and Sprada felt they couldn't manage the retail side of things without compromising on customer service. So, they handed the product range over to successful company Martin and Pleasance Pty Ltd. That said, both naturopaths still play a significant role in the brand.

Certified Organic

Vital Greens supplements are made of high-quality ingredients, derived from the freshest, richest superfood sources accessible. Wherever possible, certified organic materials are used. These include wheatgrass, barley leaf, flaxseed, apple and alfalfa powder. However, given that there are 76 different nutrients in Vital Greens, not all ingredients are available in 100% organic form.

Moreover, the product aims to be suitable for a diverse range of clients, so it's free of gluten, wheat, dairy, lactose and corn. Its creation does not involve any animal testing whatsoever and there are no animal-based ingredients included, meaning that vegetarians and vegans will find it appropriate.

The Mother of all Superfoods

The inclusion of 76 ingredients gives Vital Greens a big dose of the goodness necessary to achieving and maintaining good health. It's made up of powerful superfoods, including greens, fruits and vegetables, which are enriched with vitamins, minerals and herbs. Consequently, the consumer of Vital supplements receives a powerful boost of amino acids, enzymes, fibre, probiotics, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, plants sterols and cell pigments.

Potent Protein

Vital's other popular product is Vital Greens Vital Protein, which is compromised of pea protein isolate. 82% if its content is in the form of bioavailable protein and, like many of the ingredients in Vital Greens, it's certified organic. It features an appealing organic creamy vanilla taste and is formulated to promote the development of lean muscle. Containing premium quality pea protein isolate, when it comes to amino acid nutrition this product does not dissapoint. Pea protein contains the full range of essential amino acids, as naturally contained within the protein structure. Three of these amino acids are the branched chain amino acids, which are leucine, isoleucine and valine, the former of which is prised for its role in stimulating mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). In fact, one research paper has indicated that weight lifters are able to build just as much lean muscle with the supplementation of pea protein, as compared to whey protein. This was reported in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition in 2015
