About Motion Sickness Supplements

If you've ever experienced motion sickness, you will know just how nauseating it really is. Especially when you're stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean without land in sight. Signs and symptoms for motion sickess include nausea and vomiting, and sometimes even anxiety. The causes of the condition is not fully understood. However, a neurotransmitter imbalance in the brain has been suggested as a possibility.

A commonly prescribed herbs for nausea is Zingiber officinale, commonly known as Ginger root. The American Journal of Physiology published a small placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial in 2003, indicating that ginger root can be effective for the prevention of nausea in motion sickness prone individuals.

Natural anti-histamines may also provide relief. The neurotransmitter histamine has been linked to a worsening of symptoms in motion sickness sufferers. If you are an allergy sufferer, it may be helpful to strictly avoid trigger foods leading up to an event that may cause motion sickness. Common food triggers can be dairy, gluten and nuts, though this varies from person to person. Keeping a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is certainly ideal, as this approach may assist in reducing histamine levels.

Natural anti-histamines, such as quercetin and vitamin C, may also be helpful. Ideally, supplements should be started in the weeks leading up to the event. For the best absorption of your quercetin, take it with vitamin C or bromelains. This ensures more quercetin is absorbed into the system in order to have its natural anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.
